Things to do in Old City (Walled City)

The walled city on the east bank, founded by Sultan Ahmad Shah in 1411, was inscribed by UNESCO in July 2017 as the Historic City of Ahmadabad, India's first World Heritage City. Its 535 hectares hold Bhadra Fort, Teen Darwaza, the 1424 Jama Masjid, the stone lattice of the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque and hundreds of pols, the gated residential lanes of carved wooden houses. The municipal heritage walk starts every morning at the Swaminarayan Temple in Kalupur. Manek Chowk turns from bullion market to street-food square at night, and the kite markets around Raipur and Jamalpur run round the clock before Uttarayan. Use the Blue Line; parking here is difficult.
