Nightlife, Parties & Late-Night Events in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad's nightlife works differently from any other big Indian city, because Gujarat has been a dry state since 1960. There are no bars, pubs or liquor-serving clubs in the city. What there is instead: DJ nights and themed parties with food and mocktails at club lawns, hotels and party plots along SG Highway and in Shela; café strips on Sindhu Bhavan Road that stay crowded past midnight; the night food markets of Manek Chowk and Law Garden; late film shows; and, for nine nights each autumn, garba. The one legal exception is GIFT City near Gandhinagar, where licensed wine-and-dine venues can serve non-residents of Gujarat aged 21 and over on showing photo ID. Visitors from other states can also apply for a liquor permit for private use.
