Theatre & Plays in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is one of the two homes of Gujarati theatre, along with Mumbai, and plays are staged here almost every weekend. Commercial Gujarati comedies and family dramas, many touring from Mumbai, fill Thakorbhai Desai Hall at Law Garden, Tagore Hall in Paldi, the Town Hall at Ellisbridge and the Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Bodakdev, usually with late-evening shows and Sunday matinees. Hindi and English productions visit the same halls. Experimental work has two dependable addresses: Natarani, the riverside amphitheatre of the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts in Usmanpura, and Scrapyard – The Theatre, an intimate independent stage in Paldi that also hosts readings and workshops.
