Best Live Music & Comedy Venues in Ahmedabad (2026 Guide)

Updated 2026-10-12 · 7 min read · by the ahmedabad2go team

Ahmedabad has no bar gigs, because Gujarat is a dry state, so its live music and comedy happen in three kinds of room: stadiums and open grounds for the big tours, municipal auditoriums for comedy and seated concerts, and a handful of independent stages and cafés for everything smaller. If you only remember five names, make them Narendra Modi Stadium for headline concerts, the Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Auditorium for stand-up, Tagore Hall for concerts and plays, Natarani for dance and music by the river, and Scrapyard for open mics and new work. Tonight’s shows are on our music and comedy pages.

Stadiums and open grounds

Narendra Modi Stadium, Motera

The largest stadium in the world, with 132,000 seats, became a concert venue in January 2025, when Coldplay played two nights here and set the ground’s attendance record of 111,989. It is first of all a cricket ground, home to the Gujarat Titans, so concerts fit around the cricket calendar. The practical case for it is strong: Motera Stadium station, where the Red and Yellow Lines meet, is beside the gates. Read the gate and block on your ticket carefully, because the walk around the stadium is long. More on the Narendra Modi Stadium page.

GIFT City

The open plots of the finance district near Gandhinagar have hosted large ticketed concerts since 2024. The Violet Line ends at GIFT City station, though most concert-goers still drive, and the approach roads jam after a show. GIFT City is also the only place in Gujarat with licensed wine-and-dine venues, but those are inside hotels and restaurants, not at concert grounds. See our GIFT City area guide.

Sabarmati Riverfront events ground

The west-bank ground between Ellis Bridge and Sardar Bridge covers about five hectares, and its lawn can hold more than 50,000 people. It is used for festivals, food events and concerts as well as the flower show and the kite festival. There is almost no shade or fixed seating, so treat it as a standing venue.

EKA Arena, Kankaria

A 20,000-seat stadium beside Kankaria Lake that can be partitioned into an indoor arena. It hosts Pro Kabaddi and football, and staged the 70th Filmfare Awards in October 2025. Check whether your event uses the indoor or the open configuration, because the entry gates differ.

GMDC Ground

The open ground on the 132 Feet Ring Road is best known for Navratri garba, and takes Bollywood nights, devotional concerts and consumer fairs in the rest of the year. Each organiser builds its own stage and gates.

Auditoriums: comedy tours and seated concerts

Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Auditorium, Bodakdev

This municipal hall on Rajpath Club Road is where most national stand-up tours stop in Ahmedabad, and popular comics often add a second or third show on the same weekend. It also takes Gujarati and Hindi plays and music programmes. There is no metro within walking distance; Thaltej on the Blue Line is about 3 km away. See the auditorium’s page.

Tagore Hall, Paldi

B. V. Doshi’s concrete auditorium, completed in 1971 and renovated in 2013, seats about 700 and is the municipal corporation’s best-known stage. Expect classical and light-music concerts, plays, dance recitals and comedy. It is a kilometre from Paldi metro station and a short walk from the riverfront. More on the Tagore Hall page.

Thakorbhai Desai Hall, Law Garden

The home of commercial Gujarati theatre, with sugam sangeet and old-film-song evenings between the plays. The Law Garden night market and food street are directly outside, which solves dinner.

J. B. Auditorium, Ahmedabad Management Association

AMA’s campus on Dr Vikram Sarabhai Marg is known for public lectures, and its J. B. Auditorium is also hired for stand-up, plays and music evenings. Parking inside is limited for evening shows.

Town Hall, Ellisbridge

One of the city’s oldest halls, built in the 1930s, now used mainly by local theatre groups, music competitions and kavi sammelans. Gandhigram metro station is a few minutes’ walk away.

Independent stages

Natarani, Usmanpura

The open-air amphitheatre of the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts, which Mrinalini and Vikram Sarabhai founded in 1949, sits on the riverbank off Ashram Road. Its season of dance, theatre and music runs mainly in the cooler months, and each year the academy organises the three-day Vikram Sarabhai International Arts Festival. Seating is on stepped tiers and usually unreserved. See the Natarani page.

Scrapyard – The Theatre, Paldi

A small independent theatre built largely from recycled material, used for new plays, readings, music sessions and open mics. It fills quickly, so book or register as soon as something is announced. Details are on the Scrapyard page.

Club lawns and party plots

A good share of Ahmedabad’s mid-sized concerts never see an auditorium. Bollywood singers, Gujarati pop acts and DJ nights play the lawns of clubs and the open-air party plots along SG Highway and the ring road. Club O7 in Shela sells public tickets for concerts, comedy nights and garba. Karnavati Club and Rajpath Club on SG Highway run musical nights mainly for members and their guests. None of these venues is on the metro, so plan a cab both ways.

Classical music: Saptak and the winter season

For Indian classical music, the event that matters is the Saptak Annual Festival of Music, held from 1 to 13 January every year since it began as a one-evening event in 1980. It typically presents several recitals a night for thirteen nights, and concerts run late. Entry has traditionally been by registration with the organisers, and the venue and schedule for each edition are published in December. Our Saptak page will carry the 2027 details when they are announced. Outside January, look for recitals at Tagore Hall and Natarani and for the heritage concerts that have been staged at the Adalaj stepwell and Sarkhej Roza in past winters.

Ahmedabad also has two traditions you will not find on a touring poster. Dayro is an evening of Gujarati folk song and storytelling, often free and held on open grounds, and it draws huge crowds. Garba, during the nine nights of Navratri, is the biggest live-music event of the year, with star singers leading grounds of thousands of dancers.

Open mics and café gigs

Comedy, poetry and music open mics run most evenings in cafés and studios around Navrangpura, Bodakdev, Prahlad Nagar and Sindhu Bhavan Road. Sets are in Hindi, Gujarati and English, often mixed. Rooms change frequently, so use our open mic listings instead of relying on a fixed address. Entry is usually a small ticket or a minimum order.

What a dry state changes

  • No alcohol anywhere. Concerts, comedy clubs and festivals in Ahmedabad do not sell it, and bringing it in is an offence under Gujarat’s prohibition law.
  • Age rules are set show by show. Venues here are halls and grounds, not bars, so there is no blanket 21+ rule, but most comedy shows are 16+ or 18+.
  • Food matters more. People eat before or after the show. Manek Chowk and Law Garden serve late, and Sindhu Bhavan Road cafés stay open past midnight on weekends.

Practical tips

  • Buy from the official ticketing link on the listing. Fake and resold tickets are common for big tours.
  • Check the last metro. Regular services wind down at around 10 pm. Gujarat Metro has run late trains after major events at Motera in the past, but confirm on the day.
  • Carry ID. Age limits are checked at comedy shows, and big concerts ask for the ID used at booking.
  • Arrive early at open grounds. Parking is a long walk from the gates, and entry queues build an hour before showtime.
