About Scrapyard – The Theatre
Scrapyard – The Theatre is a small independent performance space in Paldi, set up by the theatre director and architect Kabir Thakore in the grounds of a house and built largely from salvaged and recycled material, which gives it its name. It is the nearest thing Ahmedabad has to a fringe theatre: an informal open-air stage with limited seating where new Gujarati, Hindi and English plays are tried out, and where the audience usually stays on to talk to the cast. Besides its own productions it hosts visiting troupes, play readings, poetry and storytelling evenings, music sessions, film screenings, acting workshops and open mics. Ticket prices are modest, and some evenings are by registration only.
