About Tagore Memorial Hall
Tagore Memorial Hall, usually just Tagore Hall, is the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's best-known auditorium and a landmark of Indian brutalist architecture. B. V. Doshi designed it in 1961, with Mahendra Raj as structural engineer; construction ran from 1966 to 1971, and its folded-plate concrete shell still draws architecture students. The corporation renovated the hall in 2013 with new interiors and sound and light systems. It stands opposite Le Corbusier's Sanskar Kendra at the Paldi end of Sardar Bridge, a short walk from the riverfront. The programme mixes Gujarati and Hindi plays, classical and light-music concerts, dance recitals, stand-up comedy tours, school annual days and civic functions, so there is something on most weekends.
