Things to do in Shahibaug

Shahibaug, north of the old city, takes its name from the royal garden Shah Jahan laid out here as a prince. His Moti Shahi Mahal now houses the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial. The area is Ahmedabad's museum quarter: the Calico Museum of Textiles, founded by the Sarabhai family in 1949 and visited only by pre-booked tour, and the Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum in the family's Lalbaug bungalow, known for its miniature paintings. The 1848 Hutheesing Jain Temple and the Dada Harir stepwell in neighbouring Asarwa are close by. There is no metro station, so take an auto from the Blue Line or a cab.
