Book Launches, Poetry & Literary Events in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is the centre of Gujarati letters. The Gujarati Sahitya Parishad, whose headquarters on Ashram Road include a hall and library, and the Gujarat Vishwakosh Trust in Usmanpura host lectures, readings and award functions through the year, and Navajivan, the publishing house Gandhi founded, keeps a bookshop and café nearby. Kavi sammelans and mushairas in Gujarati, Hindi and Urdu fill the Town Hall and other auditoriums. The Ahmedabad International Literature Festival is held over two days in November or December each year, and book fairs have been staged on the Sabarmati Riverfront in recent winters. English-language book launches, author talks and book-club meetings take place at the Ahmedabad Management Association, the Kanoria Centre and cafés, and poetry and storytelling open mics run most weeks.
