About Swaminarayan Akshardham, Gandhinagar

Swaminarayan Akshardham in Sector 20 is a 23-acre temple complex created by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha and opened in 1992. At its centre is a mandir built from about 6,000 tonnes of pink Rajasthani sandstone, surrounded by gardens. Five exhibition halls tell the story of Swaminarayan and present Hindu teachings through walk-through sets, an audio-animatronics show and a large-format film, and the Sat-Chit-Anand Water Show, added in 2010, retells the story of Nachiketa after sunset with fountains, fire, lasers and projection. Entry to the complex and darshan are free. The exhibitions cost ₹60 for adults and ₹40 for children aged 3 to 11, and the water show ₹100 and ₹70. The complex is closed on Mondays.
