About Amdavad ni Gufa
Amdavad ni Gufa is an underground art gallery on the campus beside CEPT University, created by two of the best-known names in Indian art and architecture. B. V. Doshi designed the cave-like structure, built between 1992 and 1995, with a roof of interconnected domes clad in white broken-tile mosaic and tree-like columns inside. M. F. Husain painted directly on its walls, including a work titled Sheshnag that runs to about 100 feet. First known as the Husain-Doshi ni Gufa, it was later renamed after the city. A separate exhibition gallery beside the cave is rented to artists and changes shows weekly, and the cafรฉ on the mound above is a long-standing student hangout. It opens from 4 pm to 8 pm and is closed on Mondays and public holidays.
