Navratri in Ahmedabad: Garba Nights & Passes

Navratri 2026 runs from Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October, nine nights of garba, with Dussehra on Tuesday 20 October, by Drik Panchang's Ahmedabad calendar. No city does it on Ahmedabad's scale. Garba, inscribed on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2023, is danced here at three levels. The state government's Navratri festival, which Gujarat Tourism lists for 11 to 19 October 2026 at the Gujarat University Ground near Helmet Circle, has a nightly Maha Aarti, a different act each night (its schedule lists Aghori Music for the opening night and Osman Mir for the last, on 19 October), a food court and a children's area, with advance passes on BookMyShow. Commercial garba fills party plots, club lawns and grounds along SG Highway, Sindhu Bhavan Road, Science City Road and the Sardar Patel Ring Road, each built around a star singer or orchestra, with season and single-night passes. And in pols, housing societies and villages on the city's edge, sheri garba, the street version, is danced around a lamp or an image of the goddess, usually free and open to anyone dressed for it. Dandiya raas follows the garba rounds on most nights. In 2027 Navratri is expected to begin on Thursday 30 September, with Dussehra on Saturday 9 October.
