Heritage Walks in Ahmedabad's Old City
The best-known heritage walk in Ahmedabad is the municipal corporation's morning walk through the walled city, which UNESCO inscribed as a World Heritage City in July 2017. It starts at the Swaminarayan Temple in Kalupur, with reporting between 7.30 and 7.45 am, and takes about two and a half hours to cover roughly 2 km and 20 stops through pols, chowks, bird feeders and carved wooden havelis before ending at the Jama Masjid, which is why it is called the Mandir to Masjid walk. The standard fee is โน200 for Indian citizens and โน300 for foreign visitors. A night walk leaves from the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque at about 8.30 pm and takes in the lit monuments around Bhadra and the food stalls of Manek Chowk for the same fee. Both are booked through the official heritage walk website. Beyond these, private guides and heritage hotels in the old city run food walks, photography walks, pol house visits and themed trails on textiles, Jain temples and the mill-owner era, and walks multiply during World Heritage Week in November. Outside the walls, Sarkhej Roza and the Adalaj stepwell make good half-day heritage trips. This page lists guided walks and heritage events as they are announced.

Good to know
- For the morning walk, reach the Kalupur Swaminarayan Temple by 7.30 am. The Blue Line's Kalupur Railway Station stop is close, or take an auto.
- Wear shoes that slip off easily, as you enter temples and a mosque, and dress modestly.
- October to February is the comfortable season. In summer the morning walk is still manageable, but carry water.
- The old city's lanes are narrow and shared with two-wheelers, so keep to the side and watch children closely.
- Book online in advance during winter weekends and Heritage Week (19โ25 November), when groups fill up.
